More than January blues?

It’s been suggested that ‘Blue Monday’ which falls on the last Monday in January is the gloomiest day of the year (according to so called experts anyway). And it’s common to feel a bit less cheery after all of the festivities of Christmas, when money is a bit scarce and the weather is dull. But when is this gloom more than just a passing low mood?

Signs to look for include feeling uninspired by everything, struggling more than usual to get out of bed, or suffering from insomnia, feeling constantly irritable or apathetic and having difficulty concentrating, remembering details or making decisions. If this sounds like you or someone you know, it’s important to get help as soon as possible. You can contact an organisation like Beyond Blue (www.beyondblue.org.au) or speak to your health professional, or just someone you trust.

The first step to feeling better is sharing how you feel.
