The good, the bad, the biscuit

It’s hard to resist having a cup of tea without its tasty little buddy to accompany it. Unfortunately, the majority of biscuits, available from supermarkets, offer very little in terms of health benefits.

Most premade biscuits contain a variety of ingredients that can knock you off your dietary goals and can be actually detrimental to your health. You may be thinking, it's only a small biscuit what's the harm? Lets take a closer look:

The Good

There are many whole grain or multi grain biscuits, that are high in fibre and have great nutritional value. In addition, there are literally thousands of healthy and delicious biscuits that you can make at home, so why not have a go. Making your own biscuits gives you control in how many calories your sweet treat contains. Check out the recipe page in our library for some inspiration.

The Bad

Unfortunately biscuits are not a beneficial health snack and contain large amounts of unnecessary sugar, hydrogenated oils and trans-fats just in one small serving. But don’t freak out just yet. These can have a negative effect on you achieving your healthy eating goals.

The Biscuit

If you can’t resist the urge for your usual favourite tea friend then be sure to consume them after a busy and active day of exercise along with a well-balanced diet. This will help justify the gorge on this indulgence and the glucose is likely to give you a well needed boost of energy to keep you going for the rest of the day.
