Growing numbers of superbugs in the community means that gyms are often germ-ridden.

However this shouldn’t be an excuse to avoid going to the gym. You can protect yourself from infection by always wiping down equipment before and after use, keeping any open cuts on your skin clean and covered with a plaster and by ensuring you do not share water bottles or towels.
